From the Tumuaki's Table - Term 4, Week 2

Mike Molloy —

A warm welcome back to term 4.

We literally hit the ground running with athletics training, hats are back in fashion and we have had a few additions to the school over the holidays. New partition walls have been built between each end of Ōpouira and Ōtūmatua. A new path was constructed around Ōpouira and a swale was made to help drain the field.

We are busily planning 2020 classes as we continue to grow. This week we hit a milestone of 150 students! We are anticipating starting 2020 with approximately 180 - 190 students. We are busy ordering new furniture and resources to support the growth, particularly in the junior area of the school. In 2020 the Year 2 learners will occupy Hawai and the Y5-8 learners will move into Ōtūmatua.

This term we are focusing on Sustainability. This is a very topical subject and is an important subject for a new school. The children will be busy planning what is important for the school to be a sustainable site. Should I be worried what initiatives they might come up with?

As we move into spring growth our bike track and surrounding area needs a little TLC. I am looking for a small group of weedeater people to pop down and cut the weeds and long grass. If you are able to help please let myself or the Sue in the Tari know.

A friendly reminder that black bucket hats are compulsory for term 1 and 4. If children do not have a hat they are required to sit under the COLA shade areas. Please also apply sunscreen before school.

I look forward to seeing you out and about.

Ngā mihi

Mike
