Enviro Week a Huge Success!

John Preston —

In week 7, the Green Team organised a fantastic week of fun and learning to celebrate International Environment Day.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Green Team supported children in making recycled art with a variety of upcycled materials - egg cartons, milk bottles and many other recyclable items were turned into masterpieces! Children of all ages came along to the event at lunchtime to design and make their own recycled art projects. There were some great pieces made, and next time you are in the Tari (office) take a look at some of the masterpieces that have been displayed there.

On Wednesday we had a class competition to clean up the school. The winning class was Owaka who collected the most rubbish from our school grounds, meaning they got to enjoy some well-earned extra lunch time on the (very clean) playground.

On Thursday, the Green Team organised a colouring competition where students got to put their own creativity into a outline of a native Ruru. We have lots of wonderful artists in our school, and there have never been so many multi-coloured Ruru seen together in one place before!

We finished the week with a much-enjoyed mufti day, where each student brought a gold coin to contribute to an organisation that works hard to preserve and promote our local native wildlife. Our school raised over $300 to be donated to the South Island Wildlife Hospital, who are based in Christchurch and are working towards the upcoming release of a rehabilitated kererū.

Thank you to The Green Team for organising a great week for the tamariki, and well done to all of the tamariki who got involved and supported the Green Team in achieving their goals.
