From the Tumuaki's Table

Mike Molloy —

It is hard to believe but KSS is 1 Term old! Or should I say young?

As the term draws to a close we have been reflecting on what we have achieved in just ten weeks. We are very proud of our tamariki and how they have helped create an inclusive, caring and fun learning environment. We appreciate the leap of faith you, our parents have made by embracing the new school and our 5 core values. There have been hours upon hours of preparation from both the board and the staff to ensure the school was a place we can all be proud of. I can tell you that it is!

Thanks to the many parents and whānau that were able to join us on the school walk up to Ōtūmatua. It was a wonderful time as a school. Planning for the creative learning for Term 2 is well underway. We have selected the main concepts and learning outcomes for the term and will be  developing some exciting learning around the solar system. As you can imagine the possibilities and opportunities for learning will be immense. Do not be surprised if you see some aliens about the place.

We will be celebrating Matariki  on Friday 14 June with a shared breakfast at 7am! Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. The cluster rises in mid-winter and heralds the start of a new year. During the school day will will be inviting parents to come and join in with some fun activities with the children. Save the date in your diary and join us for the day.

I hope some of you have considered how you can make a difference at Knights Stream School. We need some courageous parents to nominate themselves for board elections coming up. We need 5 members to take on the first parent elected board. Take this nudge as the 'tap on the shoulder' to do something that will make a real difference in the community. If you are interested please take the time to attend the session coming up next term.

If the board is not for you we also need some super parents to form our first Parent Teacher Association (PTA). This is a fun way to make a difference by helping raise some funds for our children so we can explore more opportunities for them. There is also a session for parents to find out more about this in Term 2.

Put the school hats away, have a wonderful break from school, stay safe,  and we look forward to seeing you next term.

Ka kite
