From the Tumuaki's Table - Term 1, Week 10, 2023

Mike Molloy —

The first annual house walks took place on Friday 31 March. The feedback from the children and parents/whānau was very positive! These walks are designed to help the house groups connect as a whānau and encourage the senior student to get to know their younger buddies (tuakana teina). Tuakana-Teina is a traditional Māori cultural philosophy and practice; literally referring to the relationship between an older and younger students, or close family members like cousins. It is when an older or more expert tuakana helps and guides a younger or less expert teina.

It has been very rewarding to see the senior students step up into leadership this year as they take a more active role around the school. This is helping develop more positive relationships throughout the school.

HALSWELL ANZAC DAY SERVICE - In honour of those who served and for those that paid the supreme sacrifice with their lives.

TUESDAY 25TH APRIL 2023

This year's ANZAC commemoration starts at 9 am at the memorial on Halswell Road (next to the rugby league grounds). It runs for about an hour, and there is morning tea afterwards in the Halswell Bowling Club. All are welcome to attend with some of our senior students participating in the service. We do ask that students wear their uniform to represent our school.

Finally, after much anticipation, we are opening our new building Ōwaka! The Year 5-8 students will be moving into the new spaces. The rest of the school will be making a shuffle around so we have more space for our youngest students starting school.

We thank all families for your continued support of your children - we are lucky to have such a connected and caring community. Enjoy your easter celebrations and have a fantastic break from school where ever the school holidays may take you. For me, it is the Fiji trip from 2020 that is finally happening!

Bula vinaka!
