Education Outside of the Classroom (EOTC) Policy Review
This term we are reviewing our Education Outside of the Classroom (EOTC) policy. EOTC is defined as all those events that occur outside the classroom, both on- and off-site, including all curriculum, sporting, and cultural activities.
We believe students need a variety of experiences for maximum development, and should be given opportunities to explore and learn from the world outside the classroom. EOTC activities must be approved according to the Ministry of Education Management Guide for EOTC activities.
EOTC sits within our safety management system and its requirements vary according to the type of activity and risk assessment. All school health and safety policies apply to EOTC activities.
Although this review was already scheduled, recent tragic events in the North Island have reinforced the need for us to ensure this policy meets the Board's high standards of governance.
We are reviewing this policy for both its content and how well the school implements it. Please take a moment to read through the existing policy and consider whether it is fit for purpose.
