Year 4 Marae Visit

Elshke Pietzner —

Kia ora e te whānau,

Our Year 4's had a fantastic time visiting our local Marae - Te Taumutu Ngati-moki Marae during week 4.

In preparation for our visit, the students learnt about what the protocols are when visiting a marae and they all took a lot of time practicing their mihi. The kaiako who attended the marae with the Year 4's, were very proud of all our courageous tamariki when they got to deliver their mihi.

The students enjoyed the hour long drive out to Southbridge, taking in the beautiful landscapes as we travelled through different townships. Once we got to the marae, we were welcomed on and that was where we met Fiona, our host for the day.

We had an opportunity to learn about the local myths and legends, we explored the land and what is located around the marae and finally some of our Year 4's were lucky enough to visit the beach.

It was an amazing experience and students were asking to visit again. It is safe to say they all had a great time!
