Safe travel to and from School

Mike Molloy —

We are very aware of the increasing traffic and the number of busy roads that some children need to travel to get to school. We are aware that Richmond Avenue is planned to open up around April. This will increase the traffic flow to 1800 cars per day.

All children who walk, bike or scooter to school should take the necessary steps to ensure they are safe, particularly if they travel to school independently. Here is a guide for parents:

Walking: hi-vis vest, able to judge and cross roads safely (without adult support).

Scootering and Biking: helmet, hi-vis vest, able to judge and cross roads safely (without adult support).

We run cycle safety for year 6 students and you would be surprised with the number that fail their road test.

Car: ensure all smaller children are in a car seat or booster seat. All children must have a seat belt on (even travelling short distances). We have seen some children not wearing seatbelts.

Please remind you neighbours that the speed limit is 40km/hr in the Knights Stream and Longhurst sub-divisions.

Times to be at school:

Children are allowed onsite from 8.20am for the 8.50am start.

All children should be picked up or on their way home between 2.50pm and 3.10pm.
