Welcome to Matua Ross our New Caretaker!

Mike Molloy —

On the Monday before Level 4 lockdown we welcomed Ross McFarlane as the new caretaker. We had 3 days to quickly induct Ross into the KSS whānau and then we were quickly preparing to lock the site down!

Many of you may know Ross as a former Community Board Member and neighbour. He is a caring, friendly and dedicated addition to the team. He is passionate about the Halswell community and already has the school looking amazing!

“I am really looking forward to my role as caretaker here at Knights Stream School and it was with sadness that the day I started in the role at 7.30am was 23rd March and the announcement that we would enter level 3 lockdown on 25th March. Not to be able to get stuck in and get the grounds looking optimum with watering, weeding and after a really dry Summer was a real frustration on top of what we all have had to do within our bubbles.

Having lived locally and watched the rapid development of the Longhurst Knights Stream area from farmlands into a wonderful new diverse community and then be appointed caretaker at its 1 year old school is exciting and challenging. I haven’t had the opportunity to meet all the tamariki and their whānau yet but once we get back to our normal it will be great to say hi to you all. Our Tumuaki Matua Mike has bought me this really bright lemon coloured jacket so you will  easily see me around school from dawn to dusk and making this an even more incredible space to live and learn.“
