Digital Technology in Action - The Gingerbread Man by Whaea Tania’s Whānau Class
Each Newsletter we will be sharing a story of Digital Technology in Action at KSS. These creative and innovative projects are made possible for our tamariki with the help of our Bring Your Own iPad programme from years 4 -8
Storytelling is part of our curriculum at Knights Stream School. We integrate storytelling across the curriculum and enjoy using digital technology to retell our story of focus.
We decided to create a dramatic tale of the journey of The Gingerbread Man - from oven to being eaten! We began by creating story back drops for our drama using Sketches School. Each child chose a piece of the story and created a piece of art work to go alongside this. The children used the green screen to record their dramatic role play and we used their drawings as a back drop for the play. We used Chatterpix to record the character’s dialogue. The children loved being creative with Chatterpix, they find this app particularly engaging as they watch their drawings come to life.
Some children used computational thinking to code the characters and retell the story using Scratch Jr.
To add further details and to include as many children as possible, some children chose to tell their story using the feature picture with a picture so that they were able to see their faces as part of the video.
To tie it all together, children created opening music using GarageBand.
We hope you enjoy our story!
