Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Chinese New Year

Elshke Pietzner —

During week 1, all of our tamariki engaged in a range of learning experiences that educated them about the Treaty of Waitangi and Chinese New Year. Identity, language and culture are important expressions of what it means to be a culturally located kura.

With the Treaty, there are the three “P’s”, as they are often referred to, and are the principles of “partnership, participation and protection”. These principles align with our 5Cs and through these we actively protect Māori knowledge, interests, values and other tāonga.

Our tamariki also learnt about the “Year of the Tiger” by exploring Chinese New Year. We had some courageous students who were willing to share how they celebrate this important event within their household and with their whānau. What a great start to the year!
