From the Tumuaki's Table - Term 3, Week 2

Mike Molloy —

Welcome back to another term of courageous learning at Knights Stream School!

Our term focus is 'Cultural Celebrations'. We are learning about the rich cultural diversity of our tamariki as we continue to build our relationship with our whānau. We hope you are able to take the time to come and share something with your child's class. We are busy organising a few 'food' options for some school lunches later in the term.

It is my pleasure to welcome  Dorinda Hampton to the teaching team. She will be taking over from Whaea Caitlin. Whaea Dorinda will be visiting throughout the term getting to know the children. She will start full time in week 10 of the term. Whaea Dorinda brings a great deal of energy, enthusiasm and a passion for teaching in the KSS Whānau. She has a wealth of knowledge and skills that will continue to make the learning in Hawai dynamic and enjoyable for the children.

We have now exceed 130 students and are still growing, particularly in the Kūkūwai learning spaces. We are holding an opening morning on Tuesday 13 October. This is for any in zone or those looking to move into zone families. This will be a 'business as usual' day for the children and teachers. More information is attached.

A group of senior students have been busy organising our very first DISCO! Please read the information attached. We will organise a pre-ordered sausage sizzle next week for this event. Thanks to all the keen parents that have put their name down to help the children run this event. Well done to the seniors for all their creative work so far. Another group are starting to plan a 'Remote Control Car Day' - watch this space. Plans are underway for the Year 3-8 ski trip too. I wish I was still at school with all these fun activities.

Our Year 5-8 children competed in the Lincoln Zone netball tournament this week. They competed with enthusiasm and represented our school well showing fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork. Thanks to those parents who have been helping sort and label the new resources that arrive last week - also showing some great teamwork!

Like always we look forward to seeing you around the school during term 3.

Kind regards

Mike
