South Canterbury's Hidden Gems: A Spectacle of Talent That Will Leave You in Awe!

South Canterbury Resource Teacher of the Deaf Team —

Have you ever wondered how a particular trick or skill is mastered? Students around South Canterbury and Oamaru gathered to showcase their talents and skills and teach each other for our Term 3 Keep in Touch (KIT) Day.

Our students gathered at Bluestone School in Timaru to show each other their talents and skills in a chosen sport or activity. We learned how to pass a netball correctly, shoot a goal, dribble and pass a basketball, dribble a soccer ball without losing control, and play Ripper rugby.

Inside the classroom, we learned how to do a handstand and a round-off in gymnastics, to make a balloon animal, to draw a star, and to do some cool dance moves.

For this KIT Day, we had three new students attend. The other students warmly welcomed them, and soon made new friends. Existing friends saw each other again and enjoyed catching up over lunch. All the students came to KIT Day with a talent or a skill and left knowing many different skills to try out at home and even teach their whānau. They are already asking us what the next KIT Day will be about.
