Wharenui Provision we learned that CHANGE happens and it is POSITIVE.

Kerri Narbey - Lead Teacher Wharenui Provision, Christchurch —

This year has for us and many, been a year of 'CHANGE'. Changing how we think, how we act, how we do our learning and connect with our friends and how people move on and how we look at this change in a positive and encouraging way.

Olympic Games

We learned about the 1st Olympic Games and where they were held and also learned about the Paralympic Games. As they were being held in Japan we learnt a little about Japanese culture, language, and foods – not as much as we had wanted because of lockdown. We also learnt about many amazing New Zealand Olympians and what they have achieved through trying their best and pushing through adversity.

Zoom Lockdown

We did our learning for 3 weeks on the computer via zoom. We did reading, writing, maths, science, and art. Who would have thought we could cover all these different learning areas.

Watch the students sign singing the song 'We are One.

Cultures

We celebrated Matariki with all our Ko Taku Reo family. This was via zoom and we connected with all our schools in Christchurch out at Sumner. We then linked in with the rest of Ko Taku Reo via zoom. It was so much fun. We did a lot of singing and crafts linking to Matariki – Maori New Year.

Supports

We took a stand and said “No to Bullies” and wore pink to show our support on Bully Free Day. We celebrated different cultures -Samoa, Filipino, Te Reo Maori, and our very own NZSL week - through appreciating and acknowledging the language and values. We showed empathy and support for Yellow Cancer Day by wearing yellow clothing and donating to the cause.

Celebrating

We also celebrated two new babies to Ko Taku Reo’s family. Ruth – Teacher Wharenui Provision had a little boy Seth, and Lauren TAoD – Wharenui Provision had a little girl named Isla. They are both so beautiful and we love when they come to visit us at Wharenui.
