Slice of Joy: Keep in Touch Day Celebrations at Our Own Pizzeria!

South Canterbury Resource Teacher of the Deaf Team —

In the cheesy embrace of pizza, students from South Canterbury and Oamaru found more than just a meal – they discovered a delightful opportunity to connect, communicate, and forge new friendships during Term 1 of this year.

Students from Mt Somers to Oamaru gathered in Timaru to learn about making and cooking the perfect pizza. Of course, they got to eat it too. Before our students began, they had to learn the signs for the ingredients so they could communicate what they wanted for their pizzas. We followed a set process to ensure we made all pizzas in the correct order. The students enjoyed making their pizza and quickly devoured them at lunchtime. After lunch, we played games, completed word searches and matched signs to the correct items.

It was a good day having our pizzeria, and a big thank you goes out to the staff at Bluestone School, who allowed us to use their rooms to hold this event.
