What's been happening at the Hillmorton Provision in term 1?

Cath Blakemore —

We started term 1, 2021 in our new purpose-built teaching and learning environment and staff and students are loving the new opportunities to connect with our partner school.

Hillmorton High Provision has 11 staff, including our NZSL tutors, and 14 students. We have 2 Y13s, 3 Y12s, 4 Y11s and 5 Y9s in the Provision this term. We have been involved in many different opportunities this term, some as a Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education Provision and some with our partner school, Hillmorton High. One of these exciting events was the Hillmorton School Swimming Sports Day which was held at Halswell Aquatic Centre in February. Our students enjoyed supporting and encouraging their friends, participating in some races and connecting with others as part of Fire House.

The next partner school event that we were involved in was the Athletics Day which was held at Ngaāāāā Puna Wai and our students had a wonderful day participating in a range of events including shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin and discus. Again, students dressed up in red to show our support for Fire House. The third partner school event that our Y9 students were involved in was camp at Orton Bradley Park. Our students had a fantastic day connecting with students and staff from their mainstream classes and were involved in a variety of exciting activities including high ropes, bushwalk, orienteering, mountain biking and pancake making on a wee gas camp stove. We have had many visitors this term including James who played a game with some of our students who are doing a pre-level 1 NCEA NZSL class with Nirvana. Students and staff had lots of fun and there was much new learning for all.
I wonder what term 2 will bring?
