Corinna Chamberlain - Resource Teacher of the Deaf —

What a crazy year it has been!

This year brought a few staff changes to our team. At the start of the year we welcomed Julie Fogarty and Corinna Chamberlain to the team. Our long-standing colleague, David Bayley, left in pursuit of a change of scenery. Finally, Christelle Broodryk and Glenys Shore swapped jobs, with Glenys taking over the Team Leader reins. Covid once again played havoc with our lives, causing absences for both teachers and students, but we all breathed a sigh of relief when we could host a successful Keep In Touch (KIT) Day again in Term 3!

Led by former art teacher Julie Fogarty, our KIT Day focused on learning with clay. Throughout the day, students designed and made pieces of art which were fired in the kiln. They enjoyed catching up with old friends and making new ones while they got creative with their small balls of clay.

A special mention goes to Emerald Tuhiwai-Polson, who made the New Zealand Māori Under 14 girls League Team winners of the Pacific Cup. Emerald also has played in the Manawatū Under 15 girls Rugby Team, Mid Central Vipers Under 16 girls Rugby league team, Manawatū Under 16 Girls Touch Team, and the Sir Gordon Tietjens Rugby 7s where Emerald was named in the girls' Tournament Team. Well done, Emerald!

Despite the turbulence of 2022, our staff continued to rise to the challenge and acheived succesful outcomes with their students.
