Choosing to explore our world
This term, Ormiston Primary has explored the value of 'Choose' through a scientific lens. We have been learning about our world through science.
Our students became intrepid explorers, working in groups to investigate the mysteries surrounding us. They had the freedom to pick topics that truly ignited their passion, and the results were spectacular. We ventured into the realms of light and colour, dived headfirst into states of matter, and even took a closer look at the intricate workings of our bodies.
The students enjoyed exploring how matter changes when heated and cooled - particularly when making ice cream. Students were amazed to see how colours can be transported across containers and why skittle colours didn't mix. They were also curious to learn how ligaments help our hands function, helping us use NZSL in our daily lives.
Our journey extended beyond scientific knowledge; it was about nurturing relationships within our Provision and developing tuakana-teina to develop confident lifelong learners. Our older students enjoyed supporting their younger friends, and we all enjoyed marvelling at how scientific knowledge opens us to a world of possibilities.
But that's not all! We didn't just limit ourselves to the laboratory. We also encouraged our students to explore new horizons through sports and activities. Swimming, in particular, became a powerful tool for cultivating resilience and enhancing our overall health and wellbeing.
