Here are some reflections from our Hagley College Provision students in Christchurch about their highlights in 2022.

Ryan McLliskey

This year I took a joinery course at Ara Institute of Canterbury (Ara) where I learned how to build many different things; I've enjoyed studying joinery. It is the best course I have ever done at Ara, it was really worth it. I enjoyed that it was so practical, and I always got to make something new. I also got to use many new tools and machines and learn how they work. I have learned a lot and have made a lot of furniture for my flat. I was careful with my projects to ensure they turned out well. I've gained a lot of confidence and made new friends at Ara that I hope to keep in touch with. In the future I would like to get some work experience and eventually a job in a workshop making furniture or kitchen sets.

Liberty Francis

Kia Ora, I am 19 years old and in Year 14 at Hagley college, doing the National Trade Academy (NTA) course Level 3 Animal Care. I'm from Naseby, Central Otago, and I stay at the Ko Taku Reo Residence in Christchurch. The subjects I did in 2022 are Level 2 Pathways, a class about future flat or money at Hagley College. I have enjoyed this year at Hagley College, having fun and laughing with staff and other students. In Room 303 I do the Transition Banqer Programme, which is similar to my Pathways class, and study for me NTA course, which is hard work with Joni and Interpreter. I'm also learning about pregnancy and childcare on my computer. My NTA course is about farm parks with many different animals, eg rabbits, llamas, goats, pigs, hens, horses, and sheep. I have in-class study with an NTA course that is hard work. In 2023, I will stay at Ko Taku Reo and I look forward to moving to an exciting new building at Hagley College.

Amber-Rose Turner

This year I went to the Hagley Formal. It was so enjoyable, I had a fun night. My favourite thing about the night was going with my boyfriend. I was dancing all night, and I didn't get home till 12:15am the next day! I like how there are a lot of opportunities at Hagley College.
