Hellos and goodbyes

Mary Courtney —

The Deaf Bilingual Provision at Ormiston Senior College welcomes a new staff member and four new students!

In term one, 2021 we welcomed new staff and students. Janet Wardle-Peck (Teacher of the Deaf) has joined our teaching team. Janet teaches NZSL and Mathematics in the Provision. We also welcome returning students: Yuan Tsai and Jasonta Poki. Revival Fatu and Evan Huang have transitioned from Ormiston Junior College. Students are busy as usual participating in a huge variety of subjects and achieving credits on their individual pathways. It is great to see students signing confidently with each other and teaching beginners( both hearing and hearing impaired) to sign. Students have been: joining a band, playing chess and badminton, shooting hoops, creating music, sewing hoodies, cooking, tackling physics problems, learning Maori, studying "Macbeth" and "Lion," learning photography skills, and composing artwork to name a few things! At the end of Term One we are farewelling Mary Courtney as the lead teacher at the Provision.Mary has resigned from her position. She is looking forward to recharging and spending more time doing the things she loves. Mary has worked for Ko Taku Reo/ Kelston Deaf Education Centre for nearly 20 years. We thank her for all of her hard work and dedication in helping our students achieve academically, socially, and emotionally. From Mary, " I wish all the current and past students and their whanau, all the very best and I hope that the students can achieve their dreams and continue to stay focused. I hope to see you around. DEAF CAN!!Best wishes to all...
