Leadership, Mentor and Communcation

Lisa Sharman and Kaori Kobayashi —

Hi Everyone,

We would like to share some Leadership learning.

Kaori and I attended PD on "Leadership, Mentoring and Communication". It was a full-on day with loads of useful information. Both Kaori and I gave a 20 minute presentation to our Deaf Leadership group. As the PD was a full day, we had to pick and choose information that was important to us and also useful information to share in a 20 minute presentation.

As an Assistant Head of School, Kaori focused on "Communication", I spoke on "Mentoring" and of course we both covered "Leadership".

For Kaori, communication is an important part of Deaf education. If there is a communication breakdown, we cannot function as a team or collaborate well. Good communication means better outcomes and better teamwork!

For me, the "Mentor" role is the most important part of our leadership role. It is an important developmental tool for our teachers and staff who we work with or are responsible for. It provides access to opportunities, guidance and support. When we have a good Mentor we grow, achieve better and become a better person in our jobs and roles.

Please see PowerPoint that Kaori and I presented at the deaf leadership group. Also, please see our notes on the PowerPoint as it includes useful information that we talked about when we presented. I help you find this useful as much as we did.
