Message from the Board Chair

Denise Powell —

Kia ora katou, Term one has simply flown by and the Board has been busy behind the scenes making sure student achievement is at the front of everything we do.

We are really pleased to be able to introduce two new members of the board who have been co-opted onto the board to assist us. Welcome to Karen Pointon and Sam te Maari who both bring Turi Maori perspective, which is extremely valuable.

Karen Pointon
Sam Te Maari

One of our tasks has been to decide on a new constitution for the Ko Taku Reo's Board so we can continue to ensure our tamariki are on the path to academic success and well-being. We have tried to make this as inclusive and flexible as possible to ensure the best representation on the Board. This will come into effect at the next Board elections held in 2022. We would be interested in your feedback.

The Ko Taku Reo (903) Board (“board”) will be made up of the following members:

a. six representatives elected by a roll comprising:
Parents of students defined in clause 1(2) of schedule 22 to the Act; and
Parents or caregivers of current students who receive direct or indirect services from Ko Taku Reo; and
Parents of students who are still in compulsory education and have received direct or indirect services from Ko Taku Reo in the previous three years.
b. the Executive Principal;
c. one staff representative;
d. two student representatives elected by a roll comprising:
students defined in clause 2(2) of schedule 22 to the Act; and current students who receive direct or indirect services from Ko Taku Reo; and students who are still in compulsory education and have received direct or indirect from Ko Taku Reo in the past 12 months
e. Up to four members, co-opted on the basis of particular experience, expertise, skill and/or leadership that in the opinion of the board will assist the board in advancing the students of Ko Taku Reo, being mindful of the communities we represent.

Please send your feedback to the Board Secretary by Friday, April 29th cindy.cascalheira@kotakureo.school.nz
