Truckloads of mixed recycling are emptied at the New Plymouth recycling processing facility every day. We watched the recycling getting sorted on a machine - paper from plastics and tins from aluminum cans. We must keep our paper and cardboard flat, take lids off bottles and containers, and only one, two, or five of our plastics can be recycled. We practiced sorting some recycled items and learned that recycling has to be bigger than the palm of your hand to go through the machine properly! After visiting the recycling centre we went back to the office and we reused materials to make our own creative changemakers art.
