Learning and Connecting at the Hillmorton Provision
2021 has been a jam packed year at the Hillmorton Provision. Here is snapshot of all the exciting learning and connecting we have done this year!
2021 started with much excitement for all at the Hillmorton provision as we were extremely lucky to have two brand new learning spaces. Staff and students alike have loved having more space to work, learn and connect.
At Hillmorton, our students have taken part in a wide range of exciting subjects from English and maths, right through to robotics, culinary arts, textiles and woodwork. Senior students also had some great opportunities to visit tertiary providers and explore options for their future. Across the board students have thrived this year, overcoming challenges to succeed with their learning and achieve goals!
Outside the classroom, students took part in some awesome events like Athletics Day, Swimming sports, Year 9 Big Day Out and the Halberg Top Team event. During all these events, students loved getting involved and cheering on their classmates from the side-lines. Students dressed up in their best red gear to support Mahuika firehouse!
In terms 2 and 3, some students in our provision were very fortunate to have the opportunity to form a Ko Taku Reo basketball team and compete against other teams for glory on the courts. Every Friday night, students would gear up and give it their all. Win or lose, the team loved every moment, especially the opportunity to connect and meet with other students from schools across Christchurch.
Another highlight was our year 9 camping trip to Orton Bradley Park at the start of this year. Students were tested to step outside their comfort zones and take part in some awesome challenges where they connected with other year 9 students at our partner school.
Overall, 2021 has been a great year full of learning successes at Hillmorton. Bring on 2022!
