Bay of Plenty Centrals visit to the Zoo

Heidi Koller-Lindsay and Veronica Fraser —

What are the chances? Two teams, two EOTC Event Approval forms arriving on the EOTC Co-ordinator's desk both planning to go to Hamilton Zoo on the same day!

On Wednesday,17th March Rotorua and Taupo students had an early start for a day at Hamilton Zoo. The students were very excited anticipating what animals they would see. An added bonus was meeting up with the Waikato students who were visiting on the same day. One student's comment, "look, they all have hearing aids just like us!" shows the importance of such get-togethers. For some children seeing the huge giraffes eating a metre away from us was a real highlight.

For others, it was the tiny lizard sunbathing on a rock. The colourful birds intrigued many as did the monkeys. It was lovely to see our students interacting with the wider Waikato group at lunchtime. The ice-blocks were delicious and a much needed refreshment on such a hot day. Follow-up work back at school was made more relevant by a worthwhile trip.
