Meet our Kelston Primary School Whanau! Whakawhanaungatanga, Pono, Aroha, Manaakitanga
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, Engari, he toa hakatini Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.
Room 22
This year has seen many happy and sad occasions! We welcomed Peter, Camila, and Chris to our class and farewelled Josie and Luisa!
The highlight of the year was Matariki where the whole provision came together to work on our whetu, we learnt how to cut the Harakeke, weave and work together as one big team. We really enjoyed the sense of tuakana - teina that this activity promoted, and the pride that the children took in their work - they took responsibility for the entire process and were kind and patient with their peers (and their teachers!!)
Room 20 - Kymmie, Ash, Trent with Amelia, Benji, Briaan, Franky, Ryda & Samson
The great 2021, full of laughter and fun. We adventured to the outdoors - when Auckland loaned us the sun. We visited local playgrounds, swam and watched amazing shows diversifying our cultural experiences, we even watched tatau. The culture we enjoyed the most, was definitely home-grown with raranga of kōrari which became ngā whetu and put on a show. Ngā tamariki worked tirelessly and they produced some beautiful stars. We put them all together to create our work of art. The unity and aroha was precious to see with every child at KPS working tirelessly. Kotahitanga was evident and aroha abound as each tamaiti turned and twisted their flax all around.
It was a tricky process, but nevertheless, mana grew. For in their toil and learning, understanding renewed of how beautiful our culture is, our land, and not least of all the tangata at KPS that make up our awesome school.
It has proven another interesting year and taught us all so much. Seeing the resilience of tauira has been inspiring. I hope that 2022 will be a great year and wish to commend whanau for your amazing contributions and ngā tamariki on your awesome spirit during the lockdown.
