Robots, Matariki and More!
The Ormiston Primary School provision has had a busy year with a lot of learning and fun!
We started the year off by learning how to code with robots. The senior learners created patterns of movements that the little robots followed. We had to be careful the robots didn’t crash into each other!
We celebrated Matariki later in the year, the junior class learned about harvesting food from the ground and made our own recipe for vegetable soup. We then made soup and bread and shared it with the senior learners. It was delicious!
We were excited to welcome new entrance students Penelope and Zaheen from pre-school and Ida in Year 5. The junior class also had a big change in the middle of the year and merged with an Ormiston Primary new entrance class. The Ko Taku Reo students have taken pride in teaching their new peers NZSL.
We have been immersed in sports this year. We were lucky enough to have P.E lessons provided by Counties Manukau Sports. The learners had a lot of fun and gained movement and ball skills. Thank you Counties Manukau Sports! We had swimming lessons at Otara pools and all the students gained confidence in the pool. We celebrated the Olympics games with Ormiston Primary and had an Olympics medal ceremony, cross country and team challenges.
Then lockdown happened! Our learners were ready to start Zoom lessons and showing off their work on seesaw once again. We had weekly Thursday “zuis” with the wider Auckland provisions. It has been great seeing different faces, sharing news, having conversations and playing Kahoot.
Our Year 6 learner Jean-Baptiste is moving on to Ormiston Junior College next year. Jean-Baptiste is a generous, caring and kind learner. He looks out for his friends and always enters the classroom with a big smile. We wish you all the best Jean-Baptiste!
