Bay of Plenty East Learners Embracing Supported Mainstream Education in Tauranga

Thelma Lindup - Team Lead —

Our Tauranga deaf students are participating and enjoying the learning opportunities available in their local schools, supported by our Outreach team.

Sports day, cultural competition, calf day, agricultural show day, flower show, maths olympiad, robotics, speech competition, school trips and overnight camps are just some of the activities enjoyed by the deaf students and their peers in their local schools this year. All deaf students had an incredible year joining in all the extra activities.

Some of our senior learners have passed their NCEA credits without having to sit external exams. Other students are in their last weeks of primary or intermediate schooling and looking forward to moving to intermediate or secondary school in 2023.

We wish our school leavers all the best for the next chapter of their lives as they prepare for tertiary education or the workforce.
