Hillmorton Provision Sees Student Growth

Catherine Blakemore - Best Practice Lead & Danielle O'Neil - Teacher Aide —

Term 2 has been an exciting time at our Hillmorton Provision, with many opportunities for our students to grow in their social and academic abilities, confidence and identity.

We interviewed students about their growth at Hillmorton provision this term; their responses are shared below:

Jannah: I have grown in confidence and independence as I have been going to some of my Hillmorton Year 9 Maths classes by myself this term! I have also taken on the role of the Ko Taku Reo representative for the Hillmorton Middle School Council.

Riley: Participating in my Spanish class's trip to Spain has grown my confidence and independence. It has also grown my knowledge of travel and the beautiful country of Spain. Being immersed in the language and culture has really helped grow my confidence in speaking Spanish, which will benefit me in my Level 2 NCEA Spanish class and assessments.

Anise: Being involved in the Hillmorton High School Drama Production of Dracula as part of her Level 2 NCEA Drama class is helping me grow. I am gaining confidence in performing in front of others and learning new vocabulary in the script!

Sean: Being involved in the Hillmorton High School Drama Production of Dracula as part of his Level 1 NCEA Drama class has grown my confidence to memorise and read the script, perform in front of people and grow my understanding of the acting world, which links to my future career pathway.

Starr: Watching the Manu Kōrero trip helped me grow and strengthen my understanding of my culture and the Māori language, which will support my learning and assessments for my Level 2 NCEA Maori class.
