Welcome to Wharenui Provision - We are awesome learners

Kerri Narbey —

We have had a fun term so far and have continue to learn a lot about ourselves and our and other cultures.

We are having a fun term learning a lot about our own and other cultures.

We looked at our Family Tree and who the people are that make up our history. We were amazed to think our family isn't just who we live with but our grandparents, and their parents as well. We made a family tree to put on our wall. We also have learnt about the people of New Zealand and famous explorers like Captain Cook and Hone Hike.

When it was NZSL week we went around a few of our partner schools' classrooms and taught them NZSL. This was so much fun and we made new friends as well. We did art work and had so much fun sharing our language. In Tui class we learnt about Helen Keller, and we researched her and made posters to display in the class.

Our Helen Keller Posters. We learnt a lot about her and how she learnt to communicate using her hands and objects.

When it was 'Say No to Bully Week' we wore pink to school to support this cause. We also learnt alot about how we can be good friends and be 'Up-Stander's not By-Standers'. This means helping out someone who is being bullied rather than standing back and watching.

No to Bullying at Ko Taku Reo. We all stood together to say that we will be a Up-Stander not a By-Stander.

This term the Intermediate Provisions held a School Hui on ZOOM and we had a fun KAHOOT Challenge with all the other provisions in New Zealand. It was fun time with lots of laughs. We really love meeting our new friends at Ko Taku Reo.

We had a visit from Rt Honourable Trevor Mallard, as he came to watch a debate discussion with Wharenui School. It was exciting meeting someone famous, and we asked him some questions about parliament, our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and even about interpreters in the Parliament buildings to help people who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Rt Honourable Trevor Mallard visited us at Wharenui School.

There is a new principal starting at Wharenui School and her name is Tracey Young and she is lovely. We welcomed her with a Powhiri and we were so proud and excited to share our NZSL signing with her.
