Achievements and proud moments
Many students at Ormiston Senior College have had proud moments lately.
Our students have made choices around their subject areas; they have chosen an exciting and wide range of interests, from Statistics, ESOL, Maths and Photography.
Evan and Blaine recently represented Ko Taku Reo and the Deaf community by being involved in a filming event on the History. The Ministry of Education organised this initiative, so we were thrilled to be part of that.
Our students continue to gain excellent results in NZSL under the tutorage of Janet. Evan got merit and excellence in several mainstream subject areas this year.
Our Year 11s are doing very well in mainstream maths and the arts and design subjects.
We have been involved in a Solargram project with local artist Jenny Tomlin. This involved making pinhole cameras, installing them outdoors, leaving them to capture the sun for a month and then scanning the photographic paper. The final magical images will be exhibited later in the year in West Auckland.
With staff support, many of our students have secured employment and work experience opportunities this term ranging from burger flipping to stacking and shelving and cafeteria work.
Some of our students have tried new sports, such as Revival taking on social volleyball, and badminton has become the sport for Joe.
Annie and Janet organised a wonderful day for our students where we all visited the Residence out West. They then went to MIT, the local tertiary provider so that the students could get insights into their future study options.
Our newest Teacher Aide, Yogya, has been leading First Aid introductory classes. She brings a wealth of knowledge in this area. During the last week of term 3, several of our students will participate in a 2-day workshop where they can attain Level 3 credits for First Aid knowledge and skills.
We are proud of the student's achievements.
