Southland NZSL Immersion hub

Emma Clarke —

We are now in Term 2 for our new venture in Southland, our NZSL Immersion hub. Every Wednesday we have 17 students come together for a day of learning where they are provided the opportunity to learn alongside other Deaf peers in a bilingual environment.

We have changed things up this Term by creating a focused language and literacy block for our learners where they have the opportunity to focus on specific learning goals and get direct teaching from RTDs.
We have had fun exploring Whanaungatanga by creating our own pepeha and family trees. We have also been exploring Maori myths and legends. Looking ahead for the rest of the Term we will be exploring Matariki and the Olympics!

We have taken this special opportunity to focus on what is unique about us! We've been learning about our assistive technology and of course so much fun learning NZSL!
We are excited to continue our learning in this special way.
