Wrapping up to the end of the year here at Kelston Girls College

Serena Abbott —

Our learners have embraced new changes to KGC timetable as they have set days for Self Directed Learning (SDL) and Structured Learning Time (SLT).

Kelston Girls College has adapted to the changing education system, timetabled for SDL and SLT. This has put ownership on our students to follow their timetable for days they attend subject classes for instructional teaching and learning and by setting goals to manage their work tasks independently.

This year, our Year 12 girls - Najad and Nicola have achieved Level 2 for Hospitality. They have attained life skills in health and safety, food prep, cooking and presenting a range of dishes to a presentable standard under the guidance of experienced chefs.

Nicola has achieved high achievement results for Level 2 Art Photography and also, Najad achieved Level 2 in Art Painting. Both have put time and effort into creating their portfolios that expressed their artwork in meaningful ways.

Our Year 11 student - Mercedies is looking forward to doing Maori carving next year. She will attend Unitec and Rutherford College on set days to learn about design software and apply this to the practical work side as she creates her own mark that will be further explored through the lens of Te Ao Maori worldviews.

Our Year 9 girls - Mea, Sumeya and Maia have participated in the core subjects offered here at KGC and lots of learning has been acquired together. We are also, looking forward to the expanding growth of four more new students to embrace our Deaf/Hard of hearing visual, socio-cultural identity.

Our girls have voiced they are keen to become a part of the wider community, such as participate in sporting and/or Maori events, homework group, and there will be the Pop Up Passions (PUPs) event that will be introduced soon in 2021. More will be reported in the new year, watch this space!
