Staying Connected in Southland

Sara Murrell - Resource Teacher of the Deaf —

It's been a year of interruptions but staff, whānau, and students in Southland have remained positive and connected throughout 2022.

Our team now travel from Rakiura/Stewart Island to Queenstown to support student learning. After a tricky start to the year, with the continued need for mask wearing alongside bouts of illness among staff and students, we've stayed connected with pizza evenings, Zoom meetings, and Keep in Touch (KIT) Days.

Our students have enjoyed many successes participating in school sports, talent shows, school camps and charity events. We've also done lots of learning inside and outside the classroom. Some students have been achieving NCEA credits in the senior classes, while others are just beginning their school journey.

Well done to all our students who have finished their studies and are moving on to new challenges in 2023, and a big thank you to our lead teacher Helen for her support and guidance.

Enjoy this collection of photos of our students doing lots of cool learning throughout the year!
