Excelling at Hillmorton High Provision
Term 4 has been an exciting time for all students to 'Excel'!
Term 4 at the Hillmorton High Provision has been exciting. We have had some of our students sitting external NCEA exams, some completing work for internal NCEA assessments and all of our students enjoying various activities in the Provision and our partner school, Hillmorton.
Our Year 9 students were involved in the Big Day Out to the Antarctic Centre. Two students went on a Waka/Walking Tour, our Year 10 students participated in the Amazing Race and Year 9 and 10 students had fun at swimming sports held at Halswell Pool. In the Provision, we have had fun connecting with Deaf students in America, making artistic creations out of wire, fun team-building activities and a baking day in which we made delicious cookies!
For this term’s newsletter, we have taken a closer look at the core learner value of Excel and what this looks like for some of the students at the Hillmorton Provision. Their thoughts are shared:

I’ve been achieving in my PE class. My mainstream teacher has been so impressed with my hard work. I have also been able to build a house that copies my own home in Minecraft at school, which has been challenging but fun. I was also able to build my own robot in robotics class and code it using my computer.

I remember when I was in Year 9, I never really acknowledged my own culture very much. This year, I have stepped into learning about my Māori culture by learning te reo Māori, doing my Pepeha, and becoming more proud of who I am and where my whānau is from.

I have excelled at basketball and being a part of a Deaf basketball team, especially making new friends here. I am also achieving in maths by finishing all my work and gaining credits.
