Kelston Intermediate Provision Highlights
It's been a full and ever-changing year at the Kelston Intermediate Provision, with new experiences and challenges throughout 2022.
In Term 1 we had many Covid-related interruptions. Kelston Intermediate stayed open throughout the term, but occasionally we had to work in the mainstream spaces or on Zoom if staff or students were isolating. In Term 3, we also had Yvonne (Provision Lead Teacher) away sick for a long time. We're very proud of the students for persevering through all the disruptions and relievers.
We also had a lot of staff changes. Yvonne stayed as our lead teacher and was joined by Mary part-time. We also had Evie join as the full-time Teacher Aide. We had Year 7 student Diamond join us from Te Kuiti in March as a new village student. Halfway through the year, we had to say goodbye to our interpreter Gwenn when she shifted to the Kelston Boys High Provision. We were fortunate to have Cass help out afterwards in our mainstream activities.
Throughout all these changes, we still managed to have a lot of fun and do lots of learning! We had reading charts to earn rewards. Mary took us through her Shark unit, teaching us about grammar and science at the same time! We worked on many visual ways to solve math problems and learned about things we'll be introduced to in high school, like algebra and geometry.
We also enjoyed many fantastic trips outside the classroom, including visits to the zoo, Kelly Tarltons, theatre shows, and the supermarket to look at ingredients for our hāngī project for maths. We also visited other provisions and attended transition days at the high schools.
