Message from the Principals

Bernie Mulcahy-Bouwman & Louise Roe —

Kia ora Koutou!

We hope you are all enjoying the Spring and Summer in our beautiful country!

Term four is a real mixture when you work in education: a combination of looking backwards and looking forwards.

Your children’s teachers are reflecting back on the learning the students have done his year, and are taking time to celebrate achievements and progress in such a wide variety of forms.
And they are looking forward to 2020, thinking through what your children will require in order to be well set up to get their new academic year underway successfully.

We thank you all for working in partnership with us in the education of your children in 2019. It is well researched that children learn best when home and school are communicating well to support them. We value the productive, open, student-centred relationships that Deaf Education staff foster with whanau, and appreciate parent’s input into dialogue about their children’s passions, backgrounds, challenges and aspirations.

Your children will all be involved in end of year events and celebrations. We encourage you to use these events as a time to talk with your children about what they achieved this year, what they are proud of, and what they hope for next year. Give your children the chance to articulate to you their thoughts and their dreams and remind them that they will have heaps of support from you and from us as they work towards these.

We also take the opportunity to remind you that, despite the change that surrounds Deaf Education staff at the moment, the wonderful young people with us every day, remain the priority and the main focus. These young people energise us and inspire us, and we feel privileged to work with them.
