Message from the Board Chair

Denise Powell —

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Term 3 has been an interesting one for all of us with a move once again to learning and working from home. Navigating the varying challenges of each alert level can be difficult. For those of you still in Alert Level 4, on behalf of the Board I would like to say thank you to the teachers for the significant work that they are doing to keep our DHH akonga connected in the Auckland region. Thank you and huge respect also goes to whānau who are juggling working and supporting their tamariki while they continue their education at a distance. For those of you in Alert Level 2 thank you for work you’ve all done leading and supporting distance and on-site learning in Alert Levels 3 and 4. We are of course hoping to return to some sense of normality in term 4!

Our Facebook page has allowed Ko Taku Reo – Deaf Education New Zealand to share news and some fabulous student stories and useful resources with you during this last term and we will continue to use that as a means of keeping you informed in between these newsletters.

Student Trustee elections are on hold for now, but we look forward to letting you know when this will be back on the agenda! In the meantime, you can find a section about the Board on the Ko Taku Reo website which is informative and easy to use.

We will also shortly be consulting on our strategic plan so watch out for this early next term.

I hope you enjoy this newsletter and manage some time with family and whānau over the holidays to enable you to ‘recharge your batteries’ and we look forward to another successful term of working together for the benefit of all our learners.

Nā mihi nui,

Dr Denise Powell

Board Chair
