Northland Teams visit ‘The Parrot Place’, Kerikeri, Term 1!

Knock, knock. Who’s there? A parrot A parrot who? ‘A parrot-ly’ some birds can talk!

On the 14th of April, Whangarei and Mid Far North learners met at The Parrot Place in Kerikeri for a combined KIT Day.

Standing outside of the cages, we could hear the loud raucous calls of what was awaiting us and see the trepidation expressed on the faces of our learners. On entering, everyone was handed a small metal bowl, containing bird food. Initially, most of our learners were apprehensive to step forward and feed the birds. Slowly their confidence increased as we wandered freely into the cages. We were able to hand feed a variety of bird species, and the brave even allowed birds to use them as perching posts! Within such a short amount of time, the RTDs (Resource Teachers of the Deaf) were in awe of the growing confidence of our learners!
