Vocational Pathways at Massey High for a Bright Tomorrow! by Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education NZ
Daniel Greenwood - Deputy Head of Enrolled School — November 14, 2023
One student completed an NCEA vocational student pathway this year at Massey High School's Trades Academy. This pathway is designed to support students with a tertiary qualification, leading to employment or an apprenticeship.
This year, Markus Pakii completed the Level 3 New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills, building on the Level 2 he achieved last year.
Throughout the year, alongside learning more advanced construction skills, Markus also gained his Site Safety certificate, meaning he is qualified to work safely on construction sites, and a Road Safety Education workshop. This short course showed Markus and the other students how the different vehicle speeds affect the braking distance, which surprised many of them! Markus also gained his forklift licence this year alongside another Deaf student.
Since Term 3, Markus has been working on a construction site as part of his work experience and applying his learning from Massey High to an actual building site, which he has enjoyed. We wish Markus all the best with his future opportunities.
