The Power of Friendship on our Journey to Happiness

North Shore OutreachNovember 22, 2023

Genuine friends exchanged radiant smiles.

The North Shore Outreach team teach a gorgeous group of ākonga.

In 2023, we have come together at two Keep in Touch (KIT) Days at the Rūaumoko Marae. We also met each term at the live shows at the Pumphouse Theatre, Takapuna.

We have excited ākonga with each event, who eagerly await their next invite. They loved the chance to go out and see their friends who were also wearing hearing aids. As seen in our photos, much fun was had at Rūaumoko Marae. Our ākonga participated in clay making, waiata, te rākau, and story time, and most importantly, they interacted with each other and strengthened their friendships, developing whanaungatanga.

At the Pumphouse Theatre, our students are engrossed with the live theatre. They are fortunate to meet the characters and can ask questions and touch props. The children posed for many photos. Though we love the shows, sometimes the best part of the day is lunchtime when there is lots of chatter and games can be played (after we eat).

As Resource Teachers of the Deaf, we have treasured witnessing these friendships grow. Our ākonga have created memories for us all to cherish.
