At Kelston Primary, 2023 came and went in a blink of an eye! That's not to say that lots didn't happen.

This year, we welcomed Marialee and Jaxon to Kelston Primary Provision.
In Term 1, we bid farewell to Franky, who moved across to Ormiston Primary School. More recently, we said goodbye to Peter, who moved up to Whangārei with his family. Staffing changes - we had Josey depart and return from maternity leave. Bronte joined the team in her absence and has been a great asset.

Health and wellbeing has been our focus this year, with several school trips to encourage our ākonga to take risks and persevere in new situations.

With Te Aroha's support, we have been fortunate to visit the Rūaumoko Marae every Monday and learn aspects of Te Ao Māori. Students enjoyed learning about Matariki.

Our junior ākonga participated in the Better Start Literacy Approach (BSLA) programme during Terms 3 and 4. Also, to help our diverse range of Deaf learners develop their literacy skills, a programme called 'Fingerspelling our way to Reading' was covered. Seeing them all engaged and making meaningful connections to their learning has been a fantastic opportunity.

During Term 3, the senior ākonga attended a weekly Kelston Intermediate wellness programme and teamed up with the Intermediate girls for regular maths lessons. Our students also performed at Kelifest in September, showcasing their unique cultural identities.

Sadly, we say farewell to Enayah and Kaya at the end of Term 4, as they will begin their Intermediate school journey next year.
