Connecting Our Students to Success

Hiroshi and Frank joined the enrolled school students for a day of inflatable sports fun! Both students looked forward to seeing what the inflatables would look like but were nervous to be around students they didn't know. Over the day, the boys stuck together and enjoyed the competitive fun with a group of enrolled students. They initiated conversations with the other students a few times, which the RTD enjoyed observing.

Amelia, Limara, Ella-May, Vincent and Malacai attended two Regional Hui at Rūaumoko Marae. Day one started with officially welcoming the students onto the Marae with a powhiri, followed by kai. Following this were two group activities: clay making and a waiata. On day two, students learnt more about Rūaumoko Marae before peeling vegetables for shared soup. They completed two group activities, glazing their clay work and making te rākau.

"Limara and Ella-May gained a lot from the marae visits. They connected with others and joined the activities. They both said a karakia kai, and on the second visit, Limara presented it in NZSL."

"Malacai and Vincent embarked on this event, as newcomers to the experience, they had a mix of emotions. Once settled, they connected with others who, like them, wore hearing aids."

In Term 3, Abby ran a group which included Christina, William, Aiyokee, Gabby and Malcolm. The students connected and had lots of laughs over games.

Benji, Ruby, Theo, Taha, Malacai, Vincent and Amelia enjoyed watching different theatre events at the Pumphouse in Takapuna, including The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch, The Magic Faraway Tree and The Twits. All the students enjoyed seeing behind the stage, exploring the sets up close and connecting with each other.
