Choosing to Read

Jean Gage - Relief TeacherSeptember 8, 2023

Reading at Hagley allows personal choice in reading content for students. Students work to build confidence and increase reading skills.

Every Thursday, students eagerly look forward to their reading programme planned by Karen. Students work individually with either Karen or Jean. This individual focus is an excellent model to allow reading development for each student at their level and to develop their interests and genres within the reading programme.

Student voice is essential in any learning area. Typical comments made by our students over the last term have been:

"I wish I could do more reading at school."
"I enjoy being able to choose my own stories."
"I love seeing improvement in my reading."
"I am starting to read more at home."
"I don't like reading, but Karen and Jean make it interesting and encourage me."
