Wacky Challenge KIT Day by Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education NZ

Wacky Challenge Keep in Touch (KIT) Day

Louise Elgar - Team LeadSeptember 5, 2023

Wellington students embrace a day of wacky challenges, inspiring even the Resource Teachers of the Deaf (RTD) to join in!

We brought together a small group of students to participate in some wacky challenges this term and had so much fun! We were privileged to have some of our older students choose to attend to lead some of the challenges. Our younger students enjoyed interacting with them during the day.

The students enjoyed challenging each other and the RTDs in games like stacking cups, Bounce off, Cradium Dice Challenges, bouncing ping pong balls into cups, throwing balloons into a box (with a fan blowing air to make it harder) and firing Nerf balls into a bucket.

The students then chose RTDs and our helpers to challenge each other in the activities; it was hilarious! After lunch, the students had time to choose their favourite challenges to have another go at.Our final activity of the day was the Face The Cookie Challenge. Every student had to move a cookie from their forehead to their mouth without dropping it or touching it. Some interesting facial expressions were going on. Then, our RTDs had to give it a go!

An essential part of our day was building relationships, connecting with old friends and getting to know new ones. We asked students to learn all the sign names of the RTDs who were there. We were very impressed at how many sign names the students remembered at the end of the day.

All had a great day!
