Message from the Commissioner and Executive Principal by Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education NZ
As we close Term 4 and 2024, we reflect on the incredible year we've shared; we are excited to look at 2024 and say our students have "Excelled."
This theme has inspired and motivated us throughout Term 4, reminding us of the potential within each of us to strive for greatness in all we do at Ko Taku Reo for our Deaf and hard of hearing students.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini.
My success is not mine alone, but it is the strength of many.
We have chosen this Māori proverb, which reminds us that it takes a village to raise and support our tamariki. Each of us plays a vital role in this village, working together to empower our Deaf and hard of hearing students to reach their full academic potential. It is an incredible privilege to be part of their journey and witness their growth and achievements.
"Excel" represents our commitment to going beyond the ordinary, pushing boundaries, and aiming for excellence in every aspect of our lives. Whether it's students achieving their personal best, teachers delivering innovative and impactful lessons, or whānau supporting and championing success, our collective efforts have exemplified what it means to excel.
This year, we've witnessed remarkable examples of excellence across our school community:
Students reaching new heights in academics, sports, and the arts, showing dedication and perseverance.
Teachers embrace creativity and collaboration to foster dynamic and engaging learning environments.
Whānau is vital in nurturing and encouraging our learners to reach their full potential.
As we look ahead to 2025, let us remind ourselves why we are here – for the students.
Let's go into 2025 striving for excellence in all areas of our lives - working together to achieve greatness and creating an environment where everyone can thrive.
Thank you to our students and whānau for the work and dedication to our students throughout this year. We've accomplished so much together, and are excited for the opportunities that await us in the new year.
Ngā mihi nui,
Mike Rondel – Commissioner and
Dr Denise Powell (Acting) – Executive Principal
