Waikato NZSL Immersion Day School by Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education NZ
We’re thrilled to let you know the Waikato NZSL Immersion Day School will be up and running in Term 1 2025!
Our NZSL Immersion Day Schools across Aotearoa provide inclusive learning spaces for primary-aged Deaf and hard of hearing children, where NZSL is at the heart of curriculum-based teaching.
The Waikato Day School will run on Mondays at Hamilton North School. Check out our website for more information and contact details for enrolments.
Meet the Hamilton team
Sarah Cameron - Lead Teacher/Resource Teacher of the Deaf
Hi, I’m Sarah and I am delighted that the NZSL Immersion Day School is being brought back to life in Hamilton and I’m looking forward to meeting with Deaf and hard of hearing children and their families in 2025.
I enjoy supporting students to grow their NZSL and also to meet with other Deaf and hard of hearing students sharing the same journey.
I am a registered teacher (Tūturu). I have taught NZSL for many years and was instrumental in setting up the NCEA NZSL achievement standards from the old unit standards. I am also a registered NZSL Teacher under the New Zealand Sign Language Teachers Association (NZSLTA).
Emma Jordan – Lead Teacher/Resource Teacher of the Deaf
Kia ora! Ko Emma Jordan ahau. I'm really looking forward to being part of the Waikato NZSL Immersion Day School next year. I've worked as a primary school teacher in different Waikato schools for many years and have taught from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Year 8. I love all the new learning that has come with working as a Resource Teacher of the Deaf (RTD) for Ko Taku Reo and am committed to developing my NZSL and supporting others to do the same. I enjoy the energy and connection that comes with being in a classroom environment, which is one of my reasons for wanting to be part of the NZSL Immersion Day School. I always love being part of Keep in Touch (KIT) days and seeing the connections that are made between our ākonga and am looking forward to seeing more of this during our NZSL Immersion Day School sessions.
