Human Resources Introduction

Hello

My name is Graeme Bisseker, I am the Head of Human Resources for Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand.

I have 3 permanent staff – Alison [Health & Safety + HR Advisor], Vivienne [Payroll and HR Admin. Support], Karen [Payroll Lead & Hr Support]. As well we have Sally and Taryn who are temporarily looking after our recruitment and staff file management.

It is a privilege to be able to bring our HR experience into the Deaf Education environment. Our aim is build systems and processes for staff that enable them to be effective in their roles as resource developers and teachers for our Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners.

The last few months have been very merger focused and for us in particular recruiting great staff into the new structure’s roles. We have had to employ two extra staff for a period to assist us work thought this large task.

Some of the larger projects we have in front of us within HR are:-

• Create efficient recording and reporting systems around our payroll service
• Grow and support regional and site Health & Safety – including for such things as Education Outside of the Classroom i.e. field trips for students
• Create digital file storage capability for staff files
• Scope, purchase and implement a Human resources Information System that can assist fully support staff in their work roles
• Create and implement an efficient new staff onboarding and current staff exiting process that supports staff and the organisation around change.

As you see, there is a lot do to meet our vision of supporting staff well, so that they can support our learners, very well.
