Whether in the classroom, working alone or with a friend, joining our partner school activities, or out in the community, we always look at how we can 'Excel' ourselves or a friend.
E – entertaining our whānau
- Arts Showcase play: Tane and the Stars, we put on a great show at the provision to show our understanding and acting skills with the Purakau – Tane and the Stars. It was fun doing the show, and our whānau loved it.
- Prize Giving: Primary Provisions At our primary prize giving, we celebrated with our friends and were so proud of their achievements. It was great to spend this time with our whānau and show them the provision of all our fantastic learning.
X – excellent 'can do' attitude in all the students do
- Camp: Sailing and surfing, all the students learned new skills and pushed themselves out of their comfort zones by trying things they had never done before. Not once did they not want to do the activities. They are super proud of their accomplishments at camp, surfing, and sailing.
- Clip and climb: This was a fun big day out activity where all the students learned how to put on their safety harnesses and climb up different climbing walls. The students loved that they could do this and were proud of what they could achieve. Sometimes climbing high was a little scary, but when they had reached the top, they were very pleased with themselves.
- Lego Club: Maraia and Wish joined the Wharenui students every Wednesday and did fun things at Lego Club. They made different buildings and designed different machines. Both Maraia and Wish have used their creative thinking skills at this time. It is fun working together and also with our partner school students.
- Athletics Day with Wharenui School It was a fun day at Athletics with our partner school, Wharenui. We tried many activities like long/high jump, shot put, discus, and running. We enjoyed learning these skills by watching others and what the teachers in charge told us to do.
C – care and kindness towards others
- Sharing our resources: We love sharing our learning with our resources. Sharing is caring and helps us feel safe, work alongside, and learn from others. This is us showing our whanaungatanga towards others.
- Helping others at camp: Camp was better when we worked with others to do jobs and activities that were hard to do.
- We love being with our buddies from other provisions. We love it when our big buddies come over to join us for special events. We enjoyed showing them our work and celebrating the success of all our Ko Taku Reo friends. It's great connecting with them; we wish we could do more.
E – enjoying each day of learning
- Celebrating our learning with our whānau: It was great at our prize giving when we could celebrate with others and feel proud of our achievements. Our whānau was invited, and it was great for them to be a part of the celebrations and feel proud of our success.
- Sharing our learning with others and supporting them: We loved working with our friends in the provision. We learn from them, and with them, it's a fun time. We enjoy helping them learn new skills, and when they share their learning with us, it helps us, too.
L – learning alongside our friends
- Reading and writing with our friends: We are successful when we learn with our friends. Our friends like to read to us, and we want to share our writing with them.
- Our new library is a fun place to relax and read our new puka puka. It's a place to discover new things, and we enjoy being read to by our teachers who share their love of books in the library, too.
- Teaching the class a new art activity: Wish had a new skill, which he shared with the class. He had all the necessary equipment and was very clear in his teaching. He was proud of his confidence in sharing this new activity with the class. The class loved participating.
