My work experience has been at the Early Years Whānau Centre in Sumner. I'm so excited to work with children who are Deaf or Hearing. I have been teaching them colours, playing games and painting with them. Also, the two staff teach me about looking after the children and what to do if they are hurt or something is wrong. I feel so happy chatting with the children; they understand me in NZSL.
It is fantastic seeing both Deaf and hearing use sign language.
Benazir asked me to share a story with the children; I said I couldn't because I'm not good at sign language, but she said you can do it. I said OKAY, alright. Benazir helped me with a story, 'Shark'. The children were excited about the story. I was feeling a little shy.
Every Thursday from 11am - 1pm, I go to Tūranga library for work experience. I work with a buddy who teaches me about different things that they do. Things I have learned include putting books away, shelving books and archives and sorting books and damaged books. I enjoy it.
