Swimming lessons with 'Field of Dreams' and celebrating NZ sign language!

Swimming

This term, the students at Ormiston Primary had swimming lessons generously funded by 'Field of Dreams'.

We had a block of eight lessons each Friday.  Our adventure started by travelling to the Ōtara pools on the bus.  The pool was a bit cold, but it was good to practise our swimming skills in the water.

We learned some swim-safe lessons to help us be safe in and around the water. Thank you to our swimming instructors and the interpreters who supported us in doing this.

Celebrating Sign Language

Ormiston Primary recently held a morning to celebrate New Zealand Sign Language.  Our Year 5 and 6 students have been writing speeches in their literacy lessons.  They used our celebration of NZSL day to practice their speeches.

For our younger students, some of whom have only been with us for six weeks, it was their first time signing to a large group. The teachers even joined in and shared some information about themselves.

This celebration was a great way to share our language and our culture.
